    Featured keynote Hiroshi Mikitani, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Rakuten, has agreed to speak on digitization and other trends of the Post Pandemic World. His presentation will be followed by a discussion with ULI Japan Chairman Hiroo Mori, Director and Executive Vice President, Mori Building.
     
    Following the keynote, Izumi Devalier, Chief Japan Economist at Bank of America Merrill Lynch will speak on trends she sees going forward in the economy. Her presentation will be followed by a discussion with Jon Tanaka, ULI Japan Council Vice Chair and Managing Director at Angelo, Gordon International.

    Shuji Tomikawa

    President & CEO, Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd.

    Mr. Shuji Tomikawa is President of Mitsui Fudosan Investment Advisors, Inc. (MFIA). Previously he was Managing Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Real Estate Solution Services Division of Mitsui Fudosan. He was one of the founding members of MFIA established in October of 1997, where he served as Managing Director in charge of Client Relations. Between 1989 and 1995 Mr. Tomikawa was Vice President at Mitsui Fudosan’s New York subsidiary, Mitsui Fudosan (New York), Inc. Mr. Tomikawa oversaw the asset management of Mitsui Fudosan’s East Coast portfolio including 1251 Avenue of the Americas and 461 Fifth Avenue buildings. Mr. Tomikawa was an adjunct lecturer at Keio University between 1998 and 2007. He received his B.A. in Economics in 1983 from Keio University and M.B.A. in 1988 from Harvard Business School.

    Hiroshi Mikitani

    Founder, Chairman and CEO, Rakuten Group, Inc.

    Mickey (Hiroshi) Mikitani is the founder, chairman and CEO of Rakuten, Inc. Founded in Japan in 1997 with the mission to contribute to society by creating value through innovation and entrepreneurship, Rakuten has grown to become one of the world's leading internet services companies. Rakuten has a dynamic ecosystem of more than 70 services, spanning e-commerce, fintech, digital content and communications, bringing the joy of discovery to more than 1.4 billion members around the world. Rakuten also become Japan’s newest mobile network operator in 2019. In July 2017, Rakuten became the Main Global Partner and first-ever Global Innovation & Entertainment Partner of one of the world’s most admired soccer clubs, FC Barcelona, and, in September of the same year, became the first-ever jersey partner of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors. In 2019, Rakuten became the Global Innovation and Entertainment Partner and Global Presenting Partner for the Davis Cup, also known as the world cup of tennis. Born in Kobe, Mikitani was educated at Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo, began his career in investment banking, and earned his MBA at Harvard Business School. In 2012, he was awarded the HBS Alumni Achievement Award, one of the school’s highest honors. Mikitani is also a recipient of the Legion of Honour, awarded by the French government in recognition of contributions to the economy and culture of France. In 2011, he was appointed Chairman of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, which has the longest history and tradition of any orchestra in Japan, and serves as Representative Director of the Japan Association of New Economy (JANE). In 2015, Mikitani was appointed to the Board of Directors at Lyft, Inc. In 2016, he was appointed Chairman and Director of Rakuten Medical, Inc. (formerly Aspyrian Therapeutics, Inc.), a biotechnology company developing the proprietary Illuminox™ platform as a new standard in precision-targeted anti-cancer treatment technology, and also took up the role of CEO in 2018.

    Izumi Devalier

    Managing Director & Head of Japan Economics, Global Research, Merrill Lynch Japan Securities Co., Ltd.

    Izumi Devalier joined the firm in September 2016 as a Director and Head of Japan Economics, based in Tokyo. Prior to that, she was a senior economist at HSBC, with primary coverage of Japan. She has also worked in the investment banking division of Citigroup in Japan. Devalier has written a wide range of thematic research on Japan and contributed to the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan's 2011 White Paper, which outlined growth strategy recommendations for Japanese policymakers. Devalier holds a Bachelor's degree in political science from Columbia University, and a Master's Degree in International Economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. She is a frequent commentator on CNBC and Bloomberg TV.

    Jon Tanaka

    Managing Director, Co-Head of Japan Real Estate, Angelo, Gordon International LLC

    Jon Tanaka joined Angelo, Gordon & Co. as Managing Director and Head of Japan in 2009. Angelo, Gordon & Co. was founded in 1988 and manages $28 billion including over $11 billion of opportunistic and core plus real estate funds investing in major markets globally. In Asia, the firm’s real estate team invests in China, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. Previously, Tanaka was a Managing Director in the Deutsche Bank Group where he was responsible for property investment and portfolio management. He is a graduate of Harvard University and holds an MBA from the University of California, Berkeley.

    Hiroo Mori

    Director and Executive Vice President, Mori Building Co., Ltd.

    Previously with the Industrial Bank of Japan since 1986, Mr. Mori joined Mori Building Co., Ltd. in 1995. He was appointed Managing Director in 2000, Senior Managing Director in 2003, and Senior Executive Managing Officer in 2011. He has served in his current position since June 2013. Among other positions, He was also appointed President and CEO of Mori Hospitality Corporation in 2012. Mr. Mori is a graduate of the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Economics. Mr Mori is Japan Council Chair of Urban Land Institute.
